The Auction will function like most others with a few caveats. All MLB players are available to be nominated. Owners can nominate two players each round, but they can only match on one of those players (so just one of your four matches may be used per round). Those players will be bid on in increments of .25. If no one bids on a player for 24 (this number will go down as we move on in the process) hours he will go to the owner with the highest bid. All bids start at the minimum bid which is $3, if you nominate a player it is understood that you opened the bid for that much. If you would like to up that you can at any time. Once at least one of the players you nominated are won, you can nominate another player. This will continue until there is no more players being nominated. Each owner must keep in mind the roster limit of 26 players and the salary cap of $200. You do not have to field a full roster, although I suggest each team does before opening day.
Here is the caveat. Each owner will have the ability to match the winning bid on a player they nominated 4 times. These 4 times will be separated into contract years. Each player you match on must be given a contract of 1, 2, 3, and 4 years. I think this will achieve multiple things. It gives owner some power over keeping players they nominated. It allows owners to still bid because they cannot match every player, and they also will have to match on a diverse set of players because no one wants to give good young stars a 1 or 2 year deal. This will be kept track of on proboards.
The first 7 rounds each GM will nominate 1 player. This will give everyone a chance to nominate guys that they want to match on. After round 7 it will go up to 2 nominations per team. If everyone uses their nominations, we will cease with using an order and people can just nominate two guys per round. After those guys are completed, they can nominate again without getting more than 1 round ahead.
*all players not nominated will become in season free agents. These players can be bid on at a time to be decided later. It will probably end up being right before the season starts.
